World’s Most Creative Pizzas

How did pizza come to be?

Legend has it that pizza as we know it today was started in 1889 by Raffaele Esposito, an Italian tavern owner in Naples, Italy. He was known as the top pizza-maker in the city of Naples. Word got around of his cuisine and he was asked to create a pizza for Queen Margherita of Savoy when she traveled to Naples with King Umberto I. Raffaele and his wife was given immediate access to the royal kitchens to prepare the dish. One of the pizzas was made to match the Italian flag with marinara, mozzarella, and basil. Queen Margherita enjoyed the pizza so much that she wrote a royal letter to him commending his pizzas. She even had the pizza named after her which we still enjoy today known as margherita pizza. After the royal dinner, Raffaele’s tavern, “Pizzeria di Petro” became an instant hit and still enjoys success to this day.

Since then, pizza places dot all over the world. Most of us are familiar with the common pizza types but what about the hidden and unusual pizzas? Here are ten pizzas I found that you may want to try one day if you’re in the area.

Grand Prix Pizza. This grand pizza is made by a popular South Korean pizza establishment known as Mr. Pizza. For toppings, the Grand Prix has Cajun shrimp, bell peppers, olives, mushrooms, potato wedges, bacon, crushed tortilla chips, and sour cream. The crust is a potato mousse-filled cookie crust which is sprinkled with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, and it can also be dipped in blueberry sauce that is provided.

World’s Most Expensive Pizza. The world’s most expensive pizza is known as, “Luis XIII” and can be made right at home for you in you live in Italy. It is only 8-inches and is made 72 hours in advance to give the dough time to rest before made into a pizza. It is then topped with traditional mozzarella di bufala, three types of caviar, lobster from Cilento and Norway, and dusted with individually handpicked pink grains of Australian salt. This pizza altogether with service, comes to a costly $12,000. Make sure to bring Bill Gates with you to pick up the tab.
